Veronica Poblano & Gianfranco Poblano

Friday, September 13th - 10am to 7pm

Saturday, September 14th - 11am to 5pm

Gathering Tribes is happy to welcome Veronica Poblano back to Gathering Tribes.  We feel fortunate that she is also bringing her grandson, Gianfranco "Frankie" Poblano, who is an up and coming fetish carver!

Veronica is the daughter of Leo Poblano and Ida Vacit Poblano, who were renowned for their jewelry and fetish carvings.  Veronica began carving stone when she was 14 years old and has carried on the tradition of talent in the Poblano family by receiving numerous awards and accolades for her jewelry and carvings.  Her jewelry is an evolution of the inspirations from her family.  She uses top quality stones to create both contemporary and modern jewelry which can be seen in the photos below.  Veronica recently won the Honorary Mention award for jewelry at the oldest, most prestigious Native American show in the world, the SWAIA Indian Market, in August of this year. Her latest award will be an addition to the numerous other awards her jewelry and fetish carvings have received over the years.

Frankie Poblano is Veronica's 23 year old grandson and is carrying on the family tradition of fetish carving.  In his own words, "I look at other artist's work, current and past.  I find one of thing of their work that I like and try to attempt that same feeling with my work.  My style is strictly my own and I don't describe it as either "old style" nor realistic. It is my intrepetation of how I see the animal within the stone and what i envision it to look like.  Although I have been carving for less than 5 years, I am fortunate to come from a family of artists who have mentored me.  My late great-grandfather, Leo Poblano, is my family's biggest inspiration, as well is my grandmother, Veronica Poblano, my uncle Dylan Poblano and my mother, Jovanna.  I am a 4th generation artist, as is my younger brother, Leo.  Although I have many other things that interest me, my hope is that I will continue with our family tradition."
