Meet The Artist!

Alta More, Western Shoshone

Sat/April 13 - 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Gathering Tribes has been showing the work of Alta Moore since July, 2012.  We have sold more than 24 of her paintings and drawings in that short period of time!  Last year, Alta was an "emerging" artist.  She has definitely emerged and is well on her way to becoming a prominent Native American woman artist!  All of us at Gathering Tribes are very happy to have been a small part of that process.  And, we are also very happy that the Little Bird Gallery in Santa Fe (formerly the Kiva Fine Arts Gallery) will also be representing Alta Moore!  In her own words:

"I have an affinity for Native People's aesthetic. I love the lines of a Pomo basket. The geometric designs on a piece of Mimbres pottery. Spirals in the ancient petroglyphs of the Great Basin. The night sky on a beaded ghost dance dress. I want these things in my life but they are rare. So, I create my interpretation of the Native aesthetic. I draw and paint with bold lines that allow me to weave hues into reflection of the world around me.

I started drawing and painting a few years ago. Time on my hands while visiting family. An endless Idaho summer with beautiful sunsets and clear bright night skies to inspire me. I picked up a pen and started drawing the night sky, all the whle thinking of a ghost dance dress I once saw. I want the Native aesthetic in my life so I create from and for those who came before me. I am inspired by contemporary native Art and look forward to the Native Art of the future. I am an artist from People of the Great Basin." - Alta Moore

Alta Moore hails from the Green Clan, Te-Moak band of the Western Shoshone and resides in the Bay Area. Her paintings depict a vivid nature of brilliance and peace with ravens, fish and dragonflies in swirling habitats of water, air and wood.
