Diving Whales by Kili'i Eli

Kili'i Eli

Keli'i Kaleihua Eli, has only been carving for one year and has already amazed many collectors of Zuni fetishes.  His father's family is Native Hawaiian and his Hawaiian roots can be seen in the magnificent creatures from the sea that he creates.  Kili'i comes from a very talented Zuni family with the last name of Pooacha.  His mother is a painter of miniatures, his grandfather and aunt are jewelers, and his grandmother is a seamstress.  Keli'i's uncle, Amos Pooacha, who passed away a couple of years ago, was a fetish carver who specialized in corn maidens and turtles with opihi shells on their backs from Hawaii.  Keli'i learned the art of carving by watching and learning from his uncle Amos.

Keli'i told us, "The turtles will look nice when finished using two type of abalone shell for the arms and a different body for the other turtles, plus making stingrays out of Zebra stone and tiger sharks from the zebra stone as well." - More photos of Kili'i's work below.

Ephram Chavez

Ephram Chavez, has been carving for 30 years!  He carves anything he sets his mind to make and over the years collectors have found his frogs, lizards, and an assortment of other wonderful animals at Gathering Tribes.

Carvers receive 100% of the proceeds from their sales.  More photos below:
