Michael Horse Tufa Cast Sterling Silver Bear Claw Ring with Bisbee Turquoise

Michael Horse Tufa Cast Sterling Silver Bear Claw Ring with Bisbee Turquoise

This tufa cast sterling silver ring was handmade by well known artist and jeweler Michael Horse. Tufa casting is the oldest form of Native American jewelry fabrication.  Fine tufa, which is a volcanic stone, is cut in half. The design is then etched into the tufa, leaving lines for venting heat and a pour hole in the top. The two halves are tightly bound together and molten silver or gold is poured into the hole. If there are any microscopic cracks the entire mold breaks and the jewelry process has to begin all over again. The tufa leaves an organic stippled pattern on the jewelry.

This ring features a lovely piece of Bisbee turquoise centered between two bear claws. The ring is a size 13 1/4 and due to the wide nature of the band it will fit roughly a half size smaller on the finger.

Ring face: 1 inch top to bottom tapering to 3/8 inch at narrowest point

Stone: 1/2 inch x 1/4 inch
